DESCRIPTION: Length up to 4.5mm. A small greenish-yellow and black species, also known as the Potato Leafhopper, with strong dark markings and a hourglass figure on top of the forewings. These markings though can be reduced. The pronotum sports two large black spots and occasionally two smaller spots at the front middle. The spots on the vertex are large, and often reach the top of the face and the rear margin. There is usually an orange tinge to the general colouration. BEHAVIOUR: A secretive little insect that crawls around in the herbage and pings away at the first sign of danger. DISTRIBUTION: Common throughout Britain. HABITAT: In low vegetation, particularly where the are Nettles and Brambles. PERIOD: May to November.
